This
book is about a family of ducks trying to find the perfect place to nest.
They decided to nest in the Boston Public Gardens but Mrs. Mallard discovers
it is not safe to nest there. They are in search again and finally
find a small island in the Charles River. They build their nest and
soon befriend the local policeman who feeds them peanuts everyday until
Mrs. Mallard lays her eggs and can no longer leave. Eight little
ducklings hatch and soon after Mr. Mallard decides to explore the rest
of the river and they make plans to meet the following week at the Public
Gardens. Mrs. Mallard spends the week teaching her ducklings all
they need to know to make the trip. With the help of the local police
they manage to escape all dangers and soon are reunited with Mr. Mallard
in the Public Gardens. (Patty Shingleton, Hazard, KY)
