 Nate can never forget the sight that greeted him as he got off the school bus that day.  His father, bleeding from the head, being led across the yard by the police.  His mother crying and no one talking to Nate and his little sister.  No one would tell them what was going on.  But the whole school seems to know the next day.  No one wants to sit with Nate and even his best friend won't talk with him.  Their parents don't want them to associate with Nate since his father went nuts and tried to commit suicide.  Is isn't Nate's fault.  And if they are so sure that it was a failed suicide attempt, why do the police keep coming back and questioning Nate's mother and trying to get her to admit she shot him?
