The war and destruction of John’s home planet, Lorien, is only the beginning. John is Number Four, one of nine who were sent from Lorien with their guardians to live on Earth until a time came to repopulate and resurrect Lorien. Unfortunately for them, the Mogadarians, the race that destroyed Lorien, has also come to earth – to destroy all remaining Loriens and conquer Earth as well. And that’s only the backstory. The nine children sent from Lorien have a charm placed on them; they can only be killed in order, one through nine, and John knows that three are already gone. He is next in line. As he and Henri, his guardian, move from town to town, trying to remain hidden as his powers – his legacies- develop, John briefly gets to experience life as a normal teenage boy when they arrive in Paradise, Ohio. Here, he finds love, fights bullying, makes friends and discovers more about his past and his legacies. Unfortunately, his contentment leads to mistakes and his whereabouts are discovered by Sam, an alien obsessed fellow student, but worse, also by the Mogadarians. The ultimate battle is harsh; new allies are formed as some are destroyed. John, Number Four, has to continue on in hope of sustaining his people.
