Stephen is bone tired. As he writes to his mother on the day before
battle, he tells her that the Red Legs are in good spirits are are ready
for battle. He knows that some of the men have brothers on the other
side but he knows how hard they have drilled and they are ready.
As the battle begins, Stephen is left behind on a hill. After all,
he is only 9 years old and is the drummer boy -- not a soldier. He
watches as the battle rages. He sees men fall. How will this
