Sarah
Benjamin is working on being Jewish in a posh girls school. Her role as
shepherd in the yearly pageant is guaranteed because of her dark hair and
complexion. Each of the book's four parts start out with the pageant --
through discussions with the other shepherds we get a sense of what's stressful
in Sarah's life. The scene is 1960's but it's amazing how it could be today. |
