Have you heard of evolution? You have probably been taught about the theory of evolution in school.  Can you believe that a teacher was arrested and put on trial for teaching just that? Back in 1925, the state of Tennesee had passed a law that evolution could not be taught in the public schools.  Many people including those in the ACLU wanted to challenge this law.  John Scopes volunteered to be the one to risk it all.  He was 24 years old, single and had just finished his first year of teaching.  He agreed to challenge the law and the stage was set for one of the most talked about trials in modern history.
SUBJECTS:     Scopes, John Thomas -- Trials.
Evolution (Biology) -- Law and legislation.
