Esther is living in France.  She is part of a group of Jewish children that the Red Cross has transported from Germany to France during World War II.  When France surrenders to Germany, things become very dangerous for these children.  Esther runs away from the home and becomes involved in the Jewish Underground.  You would think that these children would bond together to survive.  What Esther finds is quite different.
