It has been over 400 days since the accident, but Quinn Sullivan cannot move forward. She had eagerly anticipated her senior year with her boyfriend Trent. They had plans for prom, for filling out applications to the same colleges, for graduating and beginning new adventures together, but all of those dreams died with Trent, and time marched on without her. One by one, the organ recipients reached out to Trent’s loved ones, acknowledging the sorrow felt by Trent’s family and friends and expressing gratitude for a second chance at life provided by his donation. That is, all of the recipients accept one—the one who took Trent’s heart away from Quinn. It has been over 400 days since the accident, but Colton Thomas cannot move forward. For over a year he has lived with the knowledge that the donor’s loved ones want to know about him, but he is not ready to contact them. How can he ever be ready to face them knowing that their loved one had to die for him to live? Quinn was compelled to know about him. She needed closure. She knew it wasn’t right to invade his privacy, but he would never know about a few internet searches to help get her life started again. He couldn’t possibly be hurt if she tailed him to see what he looked like and what his life was like. They would never really meet; he would never know. They were drawn to one another like a butterfly to nectar, each new encounter binding them closer, making her secret loom ever larger, and hurling them both toward certain heartache and destruction. Jessi Kirby is a masterful storyteller. Readers will experience empathy for the characters as Quinn and Colton cope with grief and guilt. As their fragile relationship deepens, you will be delighted that Quinn and Colton have shared their kayak and the beautiful scenery of Shelter Cove with you.
