Margaret sat and wished her very special wish.  Margaret wished to be a doctor when she grew up.  But in 1918, women just didn't become doctors.  So Margaret's mother tried to talk her out of it.  But her father was a doctor and encouraged her interest.  When the influenza epidemic struck the area, Margaret was pressed into service to help the victims.  Worldwide, over 50 million people died during the winter of 1918 from the Spanish flu.  The Northeast Kingdom of Vermont was not immune to the epidemic.
