Marvin Gardens is part pig, part tapir but has the skin like an amphibian with half hoof and half toes. When Obe, a young boy discovers him he has no clue what Marvin is but he does know that he is the only one who knows of his existence. The story takes place in Pennsylvania where farm land is slowly disappearing and evolving into suburban developments. Obe’s family, the Devlins, have seen their former 100-year-old farmland sadly become littered and their creek polluted. Marvin Gardens survives on plastic and maybe he could be the key to an environmental change. This story shows us the importance of families and how we can all contribute to our future. Pennsylvania Young Reader’s Choice Award 2018-2019
