IS THAT YOU, MISS BLUE?
New York : Harper, 1975
IL 5-8
Fourteen year old Flanders Brown is on her way to boarding school. She blames her mother for this turn of events. After all, Flanders believes it's her mother's fault that her parents got a divorce. Then Flanders is shipped off to school. On the train ride to school, Flanders meets Carol Cardmaker who is returning to the school for her sophomore year. Carol fills Flanders in on the ins and outs of the school. Even with a friend, Flanders finds it very difficult to adjust to life at the boarding school. Because of her asthma, Flanders is given a single room but she shares a bathroom with Miss Blue, the science teacher. Miss Blue turns out to be a religious fanatic who often speaks to a picture of Jesus. Miss Blue becomes more and more withdrawn during the Fall and often stares at a picture of Mary Queen of Scots that hangs in the hall. As Christmas approaches, things take a downward plunge for both Miss Blue and Carol. Can Flanders help in some way? Read IS THAT YOU, MISS BLUE? to follow Flanders' adventures at the boarding school.
