Have you ever wanted to step into a magical world the way Harry Potter did? Would you be a wizard, a witch, or perhaps another magical being with powers great enough to change the world…or maybe grant a few wishes? This adventure begins with a wish for John and Philippa Gaunt. They are twins who don’t look anything alike, living a privileged life on the Upper East Side of Manhattan with their wealthy parents and two strangely-mannered Rottweiler dogs named Alan and Neil. The twins enjoy a very different life from Harry Potter’s "Cupboard under the Stairs".
John and Philippa have just turned twelve and are surprised to find that they both have their adult wisdom teeth. These teeth must be removed, and once the twins are in the hospital under the anesthesia they share a strange dream. John and Philippa dream of a river with a Middle Eastern palace floating above the waves. A man dressed in red introduces himself as their Uncle Nimrod and invites them to spend the summer with him in London. But before John and Philippa can board the plane, all sorts of strange things begin to happen. The twins grow rapidly, find smoke fascinating, prefer the sweltering heat, and do not like small spaces. And then there’s the matter of wishes wished in their presence that inexplicably come true. In London, John and Philippa discover their destiny. They are descended from a long line of djinn, or genies. Their mother is a powerful djinn and so is Uncle Nimrod, and he must teach them to use their powers.
Long ago, when the universe was new, angels were given dominion over heaven, humans were given dominion over earth, and the djinn were given dominion over the interaction between the two. Men called it Fate, but the djinns knew it was based on a precise balance of good and bad luck. But the balance of good and bad luck has recently shifted, and Uncle Nimrod and the twins must journey to Cairo to restore the balance. They’ll need all the luck they can get as they battle an ancient Egyptian pharaoh and the most evil djinn in the universe. Find out everything you’ve ever wanted to know about life inside a magic lamp in Children of the Lamp: The Akhenaten Adventure.  (Patricia R.
