Mayim and her mother left Jerusalem after her father died in the Six Day War.  Now living in Haifa, Mayim has found a group of friends among the adults living there.  The girls her own age seem to exclude her since she hasn't grown up there.  But she enjoys talking to the people who come into her life.  And she loves visiting her grandfather and friend Uri in Jerusalem.  And then there is the mysterious dog who visits but doesn't let anyone get too close.  Mayim wishes she knew his story.  Set during the time of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, this is the story of life one the edge of war.
