Booktalk #1

Eleven year-old Triston Lavine isn't gifted like his almost perfect sister Jeanine, but he is good at baking and can make a mean chocolate chip cookie.  When his father loses his job and moves his family to the tiny one-street town of Petersville, Tris thinks that his life can’t get worse. A sign on the General Store window promising doughnuts appears to be hopeful, and Tris begins to think that maybe Petersville isn’t so bad after all.  Unfortunately, when he finds out that they are no longer sold there, Tris decides to bring doughnuts back to Petersville. He visits the library and begins to prepare a business plan and a recipe that can lead him to sweet, tasty success. (Oklahoma Sequoyah Book Awards, 2020)

Booktalk #2

I never thought I would have to leave my friends and my home behind. My parents must be crazy for moving me and my sisters to this town that they call Petersville. The sign over the General Store said “Yes, we do have chocolate cream doughnuts,” but it is a lie. I may not be gifted or talented like my sister, but I am a good baker. And I am now determined to have one of these famous chocolate cream doughnuts! If only I can convince the store owner to let me have the recipe. It will take determination, hard work, and help from some new friends to fulfill my new dream. Booktalk #3

Tristan’s family has decided to move from New York City to the small town of Petersville. He notices a sign at the local general store advertising chocolate cream doughnuts, but to his dismay he finds out that the delicious treats have not been made for years. Tristan has an idea to bring the famous mind-blowing chocolate cream doughnuts back to Petersville by meeting with the original baker and figuring out a way to get that recipe. Can his doughnuts match the baked goods of the local legendary baker and make Petersville famous once again? This story will leave you hungry for more.
