Chip
fell in love when he was thirteen. Abby was like two different people though.
She was smart, witty, good looking but sometimes she was so distant it
was scary. Abby confided in Chip -- asked him to wait until she could work
out her problems -- her abuse -- and he agreed. The story opens with Chip
listening to Abby's Valedictorian speech from high school. "Nothing that
happens to us affects only us. Nothing we do affects only ourselves. We
belong to the world and the world belongs to us ..." |
