Third in Hopkins’ Crank trilogy, *Fallout *jumps forward in time to follow three of meth addict Kristina’s children. There are no happy stories here, but readers who enjoyed *Crank* (2004) and *Glass *(2007) will dig right in to learn more about the aftermath of Kristina’s bad choices with both men and drugs. Hopkins’ style of combining free verse and stylized poetry is her trademark, and though it can challenge a sense of continuity with the story, the result is quite dramatic. The gritty painful details of being a child of an addict and the impact it has on caretakers and loved ones are not spared; this intense tale is not for the faint-hearted, but those that make it through will find an emotional and satisfying conclusion.
