Taking place in Key West, Florida during the Great Depression, Beans Curry is an entrepreneurial kid who plays marbles and runs around barefoot with his gang of friends. His heart is in the right place as he tries to take on odd jobs, but he makes mistakes along the way and learns that there are consequences when being less than honest. As he tries to make amends, he throws himself into a government-led project to transform Key West into a tourist destination and ends up realizing that sometimes the old ways can be improved.
