Have you ever heard the term "tender" in deep sea diving?  Do you have any idea what a tender might have to do with diving?  Well, Liv certainly doesn't know.  As a matter of fact, she has no idea what diving is all about.  She is happy living with her grandmother in New York City.  When her grandmother dies unexpectedly, Liv is sent to California to live with the father she has never met.  He left when she was born and only occasionally remembers to send any money for Liv's care.  Now Liv is dealing with her grief over the loss of her grandmother, adjusting to life in a new state, getting to know a father she never knew and now she is told that she will have to be the tender on her father's boat.  How will she possibly cope with all the changes in her life?  What will she learn about herself and her abilities?
