Booktalk #1

Would you know what to do if you found a hawk tangled in a net at a golf course?  What about finding a wild coyote in a downtown elevator?  Or an injured baby seal in danger of drowning when the tide comes in?  Well, Shannon and Cody certainly didn't.  That is, until they spend the summer with Uncle Neal.  With their parents away in Pakistan with Doctors Without Borders, the two children are sent from their New Jersey home to stay with Uncle Neal in Seattle.  The children have no idea what Neal's new job is all about.  Nervous at first, the children are soon helping with the rescues.  If you have ever wondered about what happens to wild animals when they are injured or orphaned, than this is the book for you!

Booktalk #2

Have you ever wondered what it is like to rescue wild animals?  Fourteen-year-old Shannon and her little brother, Cody, visit their Uncle Neal in Seattle, Washington for the summer and learn how to save wild animals in trouble.  Uncle Neal works for Jackie's Wild Seattle, a wildlife rescue shelter.  They rescue a coyote that is trapped in an office building elevator, climb down a steep cliff to rescue an injured seal before it drowns and wrestle a bear cub from the rafters of a shed.  Shannon and Cody never imagined what adventures they would have with Uncle Neal.  When Uncle Neal gets injured, Shannon and Cody have to do the rescues while their uncle guides them.  This is a great adventure story with some humor, tragedy, and acceptance all mixed together.   (New Hampshire Great Stone Face Committee, 2004-05)
