Seventeen year olds, Haurko and Margot do not have much in common, except that they are both Americans and both being held in an internment camp during WWII. Daily life in the camp includes school, swimming, shopping at the commissary, and even a camp newspaper, but still both girls are prisoners — not allowed to leave. In these circumstances, they form an unlikely friendship that could be something more. This well-researched historical fiction novel explores the themes of friendship, betrayal, and freedom.
