Bram, son of the elephant trainer with the Wundercircus in Germany, shares a special bond with Modoc.  Both entered the world at the stroke of midnight on the same date.  The two have become the best of friends as they grow up happily together.  All goes well until the circus is sold and moves to New York.   For the first time in their lives, it looks as if the two will be parted.   Bram is not prepared to let his beloved elephant go without a fight and hatches a dangerous plan to accompany her, but fate steps in and disaster strikes once again in the form of a shipwreck.  This is just the beginning of many hardships the two must endure in their quest to remain together.  This story of loyalty and friendship is sure to surprise and amaze you.  (Jean B. Bellavance for Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Awards, 2007-2008)
