Jazmin
is a young African American girl growing up in Harlem in the 1960's. Her
father was killed a year ago and her mother is in the hospital drying out
again. Jazmin has seen her share of foster homes and relatives. She is
now living with her sister. She decides to keep a notebook to write down
her thoughts because she's "tired of loosing people before I even have
a chance to commit their names to memory." The notebook follows Jazmin
through seven months of her teenage life filled with ups and downs. Jazmin
not only talks of her life, she also shares her poetry. Throughout the
book, we learn about her life, her hopes and her plans for the future. |
