This story takes place in medieval times in England. The sport of bearbaiting is very popular during that time. Bearbaiting involves chaining a bear up and forcing it to fight for it's life. When young Dickon is sent to London Bear Garden on an errand, he finds a young bear cub that is being chased by the handlers. Dickon loves animals and is determined to save this young bear from a cruel future. Medieval London comes alive in this book. This book is told partly from the bear cub's point of view. To find out if Dickon will be successful in his quest to save the bear, read A BOY AND HIS BEAR, by Harriet Graham.
