K-pop star Lucky is in Hong Kong having just finished a big tour all across Asia. She’s about to head to Los Angeles for a performance on The Later Tonight Show that could be her big break in the US. But, Lucky is tired. It is so hard to be perfect all the time even with the pills she takes to help her sleep and to manage her anxiety. Sometimes she just really wants a hamburger like a normalteen. So, with her head a little fuzzy post meds, she decides to sneak out (in hotel slippers) to find the hamburger of her dreams. Instead of a hamburger, she finds Jack. Jack lives in Hong Kong and is supposed to be interning at his dad’s bank before deciding where to go to college. Jack’s real passion is photography and he’s gotten a secret job as a paparazzo to make some money. At first Jack thinks Lucky is just a cute drunk who needs someone to help her get home. Once he realizes she’s “the” Lucky, he thinks she could be his ticket to a full time photography gig. But, as they spend time together and connect he’s not sure he’ll be able to betray her trust. Told in alternating voices, this sweet romantic novel is all about being true to yourself even when worrying about letting other people down.  (Kirsten Gunn, Highline High School for Evergreen Book Award)
