Twelve-year-old Rox has a pretty good life.  Of course she doesn't think so.  She wishes she were thinner.  And smarter.  And that she could know her mother.  Rox has been raised by her grandmother and a cousin.  She helps her grandmother run a flea market stall where Rox meets many different kinds of people.  When her cousin brings home a new girlfriend, everything begins to change.  Lucy encourages Rox to find out more about her mother.  Rox finds her mother's old diary and has a chance to get to know her a little better.  Add to this, a breakup, tornadoes and growing up, Rox begins to understand things as she didn't before.
