How far would you go for your family? Teo is willing to do just about anything for his big brother Manny, but the Manny he knew isn’t there any more. A tour in Iraq has left Manny with an overwhelming case of PTSD, and Teo is tired of worrying that Manny will attack him in the night. Teo is trying to get into the University of Washington where he will be able to reconnect with his childhood friend, Wendy, and the nights of terror where he is worried for his own life make it impossible for him to live at home. Teo signs up for an AVID class, moves out of his family’s home, and begins tutoring sessions, but his older sister, Xochi, inists that he owes his brother and his family the help that they so desperately need. At the end of the school year, Xochi tricks Teo into going on a road trip to New Mexico to get Manny to an uncle who has promised to help. This road trip will mean the end of everything Teo has been working toward, but will it save Manny’s life? (Book Talk by Jodi Kruse, R. A.
