This wonderful story is about a little duck named Ping that lived on a fishing boat with his sixty-seven  relatives and the boat master on the Yangtze River in China.  Every morning, the ducks walked from the boat along a little bridge to the shore to hunt for snails and small fish to eat.  In the evening, the boat master called the ducks and they quickly scurried up the bridge to the boat.  They hurried because the master of the boat would give the last duck a little spank on the back.  One evening, Ping saw that he was going to be the last duck.  To avoid his spank on the back, he hid in the tall grass, and then his adventure began…

This classic children's book was published in 1933.  It has continued to be a favorite among children.   It highlights Chinese culture through Ping's interesting  adventures along the Yangtze River.  (Robin Phillips, teacher, rphillips8@verizon.net)
