Martin O'Boy is a beautiful young boy.  Everyone says so.  He lives in Ottawa with his parents and his disabled twin brother.  His dad is rather nasty and doesn't treat Martin well.  But at least he's here.  Martin's best friend, Billy, lives with his mother while his father is away in the war.  The two boys follow the course of World War II and sense that the war will be ending soon.  As summer approaches, the two boys are selected for the summer boys choir at church.  Not only do they get to sing in the church, they get paid for it as well.  At first, all goes well.  But then they learn that there are some things that you just shouldn't have to do.
