THE ISLAND OF GHOSTS
New York : Scribner, 1989.
IL 4-6 .
George Webb is an engineer. He's an inventor who has settled on an island off the coast of Ireland. He befriends two bright island boys, preparing them for the exams that would win them a ticket off island life -- a scholarship to the University. On the last day of summer, before they are to read for school, he gets the boys to help him move to the much gossiped about Island of Ghosts. The tale turns to one of ghosts and kidnapping and wield comparison of learning for the fun of it and the need for independence.
