Paining the Black -- putting the ball right on the borderline when the ball passes over the edge of the plate instead of the whole plate. The slider, right on the edge, just like Ryan Ward and Josh Daniels relationship once football starts. Josh came into Ryan's life in a flash and had baseball alive and running through Ryan's veins again before he knew it. Then football starts, the whole summer of training for baseball and the two of them hanging out is wiped clean. Josh is very busy and Ryan just wants to play ball. Then the season finally comes around and Ryan has the chance to try out. He makes the team. He is an up and rising player for Crown Hill High and becomes the Most Inspirational Player. Now they are 6-0. The big game awaits and the playoffs. Yet Josh pushes the limits and Ryan is faced with a dilemma. If you want to find out about the end of the season and Ryan's decisions, read PAINTING THE BLACK by Carl Deuker. (Ross C., 8th grade student, Rundlett Middle School, Concord, New Hampshire)
