While collecting firewood for his family a young boy named Ping is engulfed in a terrible snowstorm. Unable to get back home he finds shelter at an inn. There he meets a magnificent magician who does many wonderful tricks for him. Although Ping is awestruck by the magician he is still very sad. Ping tells the magician that he too wants to grow up to do many 'great things' one day. The magician goes on to give Ping a magical pillow to sleep on that night assuring him that all of his dreams will come true. What are Ping's dreams? Will he have wealth, power, and courage? Or will he find wisdom beyond his years? This intriguing picture book will capture you not only with its story line but with its beautiful illustrations.  (Melissa Crosby, gomezgirl1@aol.com, teacher)
