The dog was lost. He had no home and no one to love him.  In the story, he goes through many trials such as being snatched from his mother's warmth, taken to an uncaring and threatening home and eventually getting lost in a silent and seemingly empty countryside.  Along the way, he finds a few friends who would shelter and feed him for a while, but he always moved on in search of a true home where he could live forever.

Candy exhibits courage and strength and a driving desire to feel complete and part of a family.  This book may make you cry with both sadness and joy and will hopefully teach you to have compassion for animals great and small.

Read this book and travel alongside Candy on his epic and eventful journey to find happiness and security, which is what we all want in life.   (Tina Berger, tberger@homexpressway.net, St. James -Santee Elementary)
