Skeet Waters is one angry kid.  His parents have separated but they said it was just so they could work things out.  But now he's heard his mother on the phone telling his dad that she doesn't want him back.  So Skeet jumps in his boat and heads out.  What he finds throws him for a loop.  It's a manatee.  And it's dead.  This is a manatee refuge so it isn't that common to find dead manatees.  And this one has been shot in the head.  Who would do such a thing?  He brings the sheriff back to the spot, the manatee is gone.  Where could it go?  This is just the beginning of the mystery that Skeet finds himself investigating.
