Emily Carr was born in Victoria, British Columbia in 1871.  She came from a large family and was raised by strict parents.  When she was about 19 years old, she left her home to attend art school in San Francisco.  She went on to become a famous artist at a time when women were not encouraged to do that.  She also chose the oboriginal culture of the West Coast of British Columbia as her subject.  Told in graphic novel style, this book is about one of Canada's beloved artists.
