In
the conclusion to the Maze Runner trilogy, we find
Thomas and the rest
of the survivors of the Scorch Trials being held by
WICKED (World in Catastophe,
Killzone Experiment Department). WICKED has been
formed by the governments
of the surviving nations and now have combined
forces. They have
vowed to keep Flare at bay. Although many of the
survivors believe
that WICKED is in fact a good thing, Thomas and others
do not agree.
Together they plot an escape to join forces with The
Right Arm who want
to overthrow the new government.
Booktalk #2
The Death Cure is the third
book in The Maze Runner series by
James Dashner. Similar to the other titles in this series, The Death Cure leaves the
reader and our heroic protagonist, Thomas, in the dark
until the very end. Waking up at WICKED can never be
good. Thomas finds himself once again at the mercy of the
mind-controlling power of the organization he helped
design. After learning that there is no cure for the
Flare, Thomas and his Glader friends are told by Assistant
Director Janson that they are lucky enough to be
immune—all of the Gladers, except for one, will have no
fear of contracting the virus. Before WICKED can carry out
a terrifying medical procedure, the group steals a Berg
from the hanger and escapes into the world of which they
have no recollection. Understanding only fragments of
their past, Thomas, Minho, Newt and the other remaining
Gladers begin a journey that slowly illuminates WICKED’s
ultimate plans.
The Berg lands in Denver where an underground
rebellion, a group bent on the destruction of WICKED
known as The Right Arm, makes an alliance with Thomas’s
group. Their master plan, a scheme to plant a device
that disables weapons in WICKED’s Headquarters outside
of Denver, seems an impossible feat. Make sure to pick
up this final installment of The Maze Runner series to
see if the Gladers are able to pull off their mission.
Join Thomas for the conclusion of his struggle
against WICKED where the Flare, Cranks, a population of
frightened citizens without much to lose, and a
staggering loss of memory, are only a few of the many
things standing in his way. An exciting thrill ride,
this book will leave you wondering, if WICKED really
could be “good.”
