The
year is 1838 and things are about to change for Soft Rain and her family.
The United States government has decided to enforce a treaty with the Cherokee
and force them to move from North Carolina to Oklahoma. At first,
Soft Rain and her family can't believe that the decree has anything to
do with them. After all, they didn't sign the treaty. And,
they've just planted their crops. Surely they can't be told to leave
their land now. When the soldiers burst into the house and order
Soft Rain and her mother to grab what they can carry and leave immediately,
it just doesn't seem real. Her father and brother are in the fields
and are left behind. Over the next few months, Soft Rain and her
mother are marched across the country and endure hardships that they could
never have imagined. Join Soft Rain and her family as they travel
the infamous Trail of Tears. |
