The world of Tremaris is divided into nine separate lands.  Each of these has been granted one of eight chantments or powers controlled by song.  Calwyn is being trained as a priestess and is learning the ice call chant.  She is able to call up ice and cold by her song.  The people of the ice feel protected by the giant wall of ice until a young man is able to penetrate the wall.  Darrow brings word of a sorcerer who is determined to learn all the songs so that he can rule all of Tremaris.  Calwyn doesn't believe that one person can have to vocal range to sing all the songs.  Until she meets Samis.  Now she and Darrow must try to stop him before he learns all the songs.  This is the first of a planned trilogy.
