The
United States waited and watched one. The USSR smashed one as soon as it
landed. The British hovered around with helicopters until one flattened
a farmhouse and then sent in the Air Force to crush one. The Tripods still
managed to infiltrate earthlings though. First, through subliminal messages
on TV, then through the proselytizing of capped believers who went around
capping neighbors, soon the uncapped were in a minority, the capped had
lost their individuality and were singing the praises of the new Tripod
rulers. Laurie, Rudi and Angela were teenagers trying to escape being capped
by trekking through the Alps. This is a prequel to a 3-part trilogy that
John Christopher wrote earlier. In this prequel, we learn about the teenagers'
background and the way the Tripods took over the earth. In the trilogy,
you can read about the adventures of the teenagers' encounters as they
attempt to sabotage the Tripod's nerve center. |
