Daniel seems to have it all.  He has a wonderful family, a good friend, he goes to a good school.  Life is good.  But it is all about to change.  You see, Daniel is living in Germany during the 1930s.  Hitler has just come to power.  All the boys are joining the Hitler Youth.  But Daniel's parents forbid him from doing that.  What Daniel doesn't know is that his mother is Jewish.  His grandparents had turned their backs on the Jewish faith and Daniel's mother was not raised as a Jew.  But according to the new Germany, she was still Jewish.  And so was Daniel.  His father was Aryan and an important man so they were allowed to continue with their lives.  For a short time. But can they keep going on as if they were not Jews?  Or will the terrible Hitler anti-Jewish laws come down on them?
