Since Griet’s first day as a maid for a new family she hasn’t been liked by some. Cornelia, is one of the kids has been out to get her from the start. Tanneke, the other maid in the house and Catharina have been in some way jealous of Griet. There are only three people allowed in Johannes Vermeer’s studio. As Vermeer finishes a painting, his most valuable client, Van Ruijven, decides he wants the next painting to be of him and Griet. This puts Vermeer in an awkward position, not to mention Griet.  (Serena Starks, student, Mansfield Jr/Sr High School)
