This story is about a 12 year-old boy named Tyler Bohannon and his journey to find his father. In the spring of 1865, the Civil War has finally ended.  Men are coming home; families are being reunited....except for Tylers.  Tyler's dream of seeing his father again was close to being ruined.

Upon learning that his father's company, led by Jo Shelby, were headed for Mexico in order to regroup, rearm and continue the fight against the Yankees, Tyler sets out to find his father, Black Jack Bohhanon, and bring him home.  On the way to Mexico, Tyler befriends a fierce, apparently abused dog, who becomes his close and knowing companion. Tyler names him Bigger.

His 800-mile trek is filled with adventure, excitement, fear and self-discovery.  Read this compelling book and learn why Tyler, with Bigger's help, learns that some dreams might not be worth holding on to.  This is the first of a 3-part series; the second being Sooner.  (Tina Berger, tberger@homexpressway.net, St. James -Santee Elementary)
