Sixteen year old Victoria Arbuthnot has been raised in India by relatives but now that she is of marrying age, she is off to London to find a suitable husband.  On the ship to England, she meets the charming Sir Hugo Rothschild.  As they near the end of their journey, Sir Hugo proposes to Victoria.  She has every intention of turning him down but then Jacob Carstairs, the young ship's captain, interrupts them.  Knowing that it will bother Carstairs to no end, Victoria accepts Hugo's proposal.  But that is not the end of the story.  There is much more in store for the young lady.  If you like Victorian romance stories, you won't be disappointed.
