She hadn't meant it to happen.  She was just fooling around.  But it did happen and now she finds herself exiled to her aunt's home in New York City.  It is definitely different from her home in Iowa but Jean knows she had to leave.  And it was her fault.  There's a reason people call her Jinx instead of Jean.  But her new life isn't starting out so great.  There is no one to meet her at the airport.  When she finally arrives at the her new home, she finds her cousin has changed a lot.  She's into drugs, sex, hanging out and, worst of all, witchcraft.  Tory believes she is a witch and even has her own coven.  Jinx wants nothing to do with this.  And that just alienates Tory even more.  And now, bad things are happening again.
