Booktalk #1

Has your dog ever done something brave?  If he has I bet you thought he deserved to get a medal!  Newbery Medal winner Betsy Byars and her daughters collaborate for the first time in this collection of stories about heroic dogs.  Each of the tales is told from the point of view of a contestant entering a dog in the "My Hero" contest.  Drama, humor, and love fuel these short, well-written stories.
Prepared by:  Jessie Catalano for South Carolina Children's Book Award

Booktalk #2

We all have heard about someone being called a “hero” but can a dog be a hero?  In My Dog My Hero we meet eight dogs: Dopey, Smiley, Bear, Munchkin, Buster, Blue, Little Bit and Old Dog. The owners of each dog has written a short story to tell why they believe their dog should win the “gold medal” for being a hero. Can a dog be a hero? How will the judges choose only one dog from the eight to win the medal? Who would you choose to win the medal?  Read the book My Dog My Hero and decide who is should win the medal and be called “hero”.
