The summer
Jimmie's father died, he got super scared. He lost
all his daring and actually wondered why people
would jay-walk or drive in a car when that could
kill them as quickly as his dad's accident in the
mines killed him. When Uncle Pete walks across thin
ice on a dare, Jimmie adds guilt to his fear.
Things don't seem to get better even after CC -- 92
but claims to be 100 -- stays for the Christmas
holidays and has the other twin bed in Jimmie's
room. But then he seems to see his family in a new
light. Everything is clear and the old man isn't
too old to be a help to Jimmie.
