When Louis Braille was born in 1809, he was a tiny baby and no one expected him to live.  But he did.  He was an active, curious boy who was always learning.  When he was 5, he had an accident that cost him his eyesight.  Now blind but still curious, Louis longed to find books that he could read.  He ended up going to a school for the blind in Paris.  The few books they had did not satisfy Louis.  He longed to find a way to write books that blind children could read.  Find out about how Louis experimented with different ideas until he developed the Braille alphabet that opened up reading to many blind people all around the world.
