Charity is heading North. She isn't sure why
her sister Bea came for her at this time, but she
knows that she is in danger. Their owner has
hired a slave catcher to bring them back to the
plantation so they only travel by night when they
can hide in the shadows. Charity didn't have
a bad life on the plantation. She worked in
the house and spent a majority of her time with the
owner's daughter. Charity liked Bethy and
liked the opportunity to get an education along
with Bethy. Bea worked in the fields and had
a much harder life. When Bea said it was time
to go, Charity had regrets but knew she must
go. So, the girls find themselves in
Burlington, Vermont hiding in the basement of a
very kind man. The girls are so close to
their Montreal destination and yet there are
complications that may change their plans.
Join Charity and Bea and they flee North in THE
BLACK BONNET.
