During the Civil War, many women wanted to help the war effort in any way they could. This story shows some of the ways that women helped the Confederate army during the Civil War. The main character is Geneva Chatfield who disguises herself as a man so that she can join the army with her husband. Geneva turns out to be a very good soldier -- better than her husband. The book tells how Geneva copes with the horror of war.
