Stella
follows her family back to the father's childhood
home. He has lost his claim to the farm, but his
brother lets him settle in an abandoned
share-cropper shack. Even this is so much better
than Stella's former home -- the station wagon that
carried them from place to place -- that she
doesn't want to move on to a better place when the
opportunity arises. There's the added dilemma of
which boy is best for her -- her poor neighbor who
does seem to be just like her --or the rich boy,
who is showing her more expensive social activities
but doesn't really have much in common with
her.
