Jack,
a nice senior lacking in confidence, gets rejected by the one girl he wanted
to take to prom. So his friends try to help him out by placing a personal
ad for him in the online school newspaper. At first he's humiliated and
furious with them. But when he hears that he's received dozens of responses,
he softens up a bit. He then goes on a humorous, whirlwind of speed dating,
trying to get to know 24 girls in the 7 days before prom in hopes of finding
someone to take.
The whole experience is pretty comical. For example, after going on a few dates, Jack realizes that he doesn't know how to kiss. So there's one whole chapter about how his best friend, Natalie, teaches him how to kiss properly. One technique she teaches him is to mouth a certain word.
